Does the world still need VGA?

vga cable and port

VGA is one of the peripherals that are found on most LCD TV nowadays, although the tech is old and HDMI has become the normal standard. Video Graphics Adapter as called, predate the introduction of HDMI which as become one of the few standard globally recognized for wired video and audio connection.

Unlike HDMI, VGA lacks both audio input and output, which makes it even more worst than some old peripherals like DisplayPort and Firewall. It is surprising to still find the VGA port on some modern desktop. For one thing, it lacks nearly all the things that today's gadgets require.

Its bandwidth is so limited, it is so slow, it cannot output audio, and it does not support 4K. 4K resolution is now the new standard, and so far, only HDMI and few proprietary peripherals like DisplayPort and USB-C support it. We are not far fetching if we say that 8K resolution will become the normal standard by 2030.

So, does the world still need VGA? The simple answer is NO. The world has moved far beyond that and we now have better connections that work without any limitation. Thunderbolt connection is gradually becoming the norm on notebooks and desktop, so we don't see any usefulness of VGA in this age.

In today's market, LCD TV with VGA port are still popular. I bought a 32-inch LCD TV few weeks ago and it comes with VGA port. It is still useful anyway if you have some old HP laptops or desktops that lack HDMI. So far, it works with my HP EliteBook 8460p, which was introduced in 2012. The truth is, the world has moved on, and only the few of us that left behind can find usefulness in this old things.
