Does the world still need point and shoot cameras?

point and shoot cameras

We are now in the era of smartphones where nearly anyone with a smartphone can take a picture, unlike ten years ago, when point-and-shoot digital cameras were a thing.

I still have one of those in my closet (Samsung P21), and I often wonder what the hell am I going to do with it. Its clarity and sharpness are not on the same scale with the lowest of the lowest of any smartphone you can lay your hands on.

The world has simply moved on. Samsung and Sony have stopped producing point-and-shoot and have instead focus on smartphone production. It is a reality that we suddenly found ourselves in with no way of escape.

If you are given a point-and-shoot digital camera and you have a mid-range Sony smartphone, what are you going to do with it?

Although, point and shoot are dedicated for photography, smartphones have so many other important usefulness.

You can use a smartphone to make and receive calls, play music, watch videos, and run any application that is configured to do a specific thing on the device. For instance, you can use WhatsApp to communicate, use Zoom to do video conferencing, and lots more.

You cannot do all of these things on point-and-shoot digital cameras. They were made just for only one purpose - to take pictures and to record videos. Nothing more. We can't compare the clarity as well.

Most point-and-shoot uses CCD sensor and not CMOS sensor. They are not premium like DSLR or Mirrorless cameras. They are made to capture pictures and not to take better pictures.

The world do not need point-and-shoot cameras at this time, since mobile photography are better in all ramifications. Mobile photography is here to stay, that's the fact.

Manufacturers no longer produce point-and-shoot because the tech does not have a future. The future is already here. The future is mobile photography.
