Are you using reactions on WhatsApp?

whatsapp reactions

Some few weeks ago, WhatsApp introduced Reactions into its messaging app. While it was applauded by some, it made little to no difference to others. The firm is jam-packing the platform with features as much as possible, but are all these features necessary or essential? This raise the question, are you using reactions on WhatsApp?

Reactions are a thing on almost all social media platforms that we know, but we can't really help but observe that WhatsApp is not a social network, it's merely a messaging platform where communication can be picked and drop. If I'm asked how I feel about it, I would say reactions does not make any sense on WhatsApp.

I won't be surprised if the feature is removed sometime in the future. Let me ask you, are you using reactions on WhatsApp? First, what is its use on such platform? WhatsApp is not Facebook or Instagram, it differs greatly in how it works. Instead of reactions, sending just a simple emoji as a reply will do the same work.

I've only used "Reactions" once on WhatsApp, and I only use it just to try the feature out, to know if I'll be using it or not. As it turned out, I found it as one of those things I will never use. I won't be surprised if some found it useful, but personally, I do not. It is impractical in use on such platform where serious communication is a thing.

WhatsApp is not Facebook, it's not a junk yard where everyone and anyone can drop their baggage. No, it's not. WhatsApp is where I have meaningful conversations with friends and family, with partners and associates, it's not just some places where anything goes. No. it's not. Reactions may be good and useful on other social platforms, but to me, it is not on WhatsApp.

You may consider this a bit by asking yourself, do you really need it? I mean, do you really need reactions on WhatsApp? Why does the firm introduce the feature after existing for decades on Facebook? Is it useful at all? If we all wants to be honest with ourselves, we don't need it. But maybe the firm think that we do. Sometime somewhere later they will realize that we don't, and simply move on with it.
