Can I bar calls on Nigeria network carriers?

bar calls in nigeria

There are four major network providers in Nigeria, MTN, Glo, Airtel, and 9Mobile. These four network carriers are responsible for nearly every communication in and out of the country. Although they differ in the way they operate, their tariff are almost the same.

But I am not going to talk about their tariff plans today (maybe another time). If you check the contact app on your smartphone clearly, you will see call barring among the options. Whether you are using Google Contacts or Samsung Contacts or any third-party contacts and dialer app on your phone, you'll see the option to bar calls.

What is call barring? Call barring simply disable any incoming and outgoing calls from reaching your line. Once call barring is activated, no one will be able to call your number or reach your line. It is different from call divert or call forwarding, however.

The question is can you bar calls on Nigeria network carriers? No, you can't. Our networks here in Nigeria does not support call barring. I've tried to turn it on several times on most carriers all to no avail. MTN, Airtel, Glo, and 9Mobile does not support call barring.

You can, however, use call forwarding (also known as call divert) to forward calls to an inactive number if you wish to disable any incoming calls from reaching your line. That's the only option you have. Another option is to enable voice mail so that the caller can leave you a message in case you don't want to pick his call.

I do not know why call barring is not activated or supported by major Nigeria network providers, however, with call forwarding and voice mail, you can still prevent calls you do not want to receive from reaching your line. Do you found this post helpful? Please do not forget to share.
