Text message is the traditional way of sending messages on a mobile phone. Unlike plethora of other options available today, it does not require any data. It will be safe to say that it is as basic as it gets. You simply write a short text that is not more than 160 character and then press the send button.
It is possible to add emoji to text when text messaging although gifs and stickers are not allowed. WhatsApp and few others like Facebook and telegram have lead the modern way of texting. They however require internet or mobile data before the message is sent.
In Nigeria, four naira is charged per one page (that is 160 characters) of text. Two page is eight naira and three page is twelve naira. Airplane mode must be off and you must have enough credits on your line before you can send a text message. The modern ways of texting using mobile data has changed a lot of things.
For those who rely on WhatsApp to message or chat with their friends, they do not need to have credits on their line as all it takes to work is having an active data on the line to browse the web. Notwithstanding, if I'm asked that which of the two is secure, I'll definitely vote for text message.
