Why are dual SIM phones so common?

dual sim phone

It seem everyone is expected to have two SIM cards in their drawer, at least. Almost all smartphone releases since four or five years ago have dual SIM slots where two SIM cards can be inserted. Why? It is believed to be a priority in China - a country where roughly 90-percent of today's smartphones are made.

The Asia market is different from other continents market, although Africa seems to have learnt from there somehow. Most (if not all) popular phone brands in Asia and Africa are Chinese, meaning, they hold a substantial amount of will when it comes to price and specs control.

They dominate and are accountable for the type of device that each person uses. The brands control the market, hence, the rise of dual SIM phones over the years. But there are still some brands that are very much holding on to single SIM phones up till today.

Manufacturers like Apple mostly release single SIM variant of their phone in most markets outside the Asia market, while their dual SIM variant sometimes are exclusive to China. It could be dedicated dual SIM slots or hybrid dual SIM slots, it depends on the product.

The Korean tech company known as Samsung, also release phones that are dual SIM capable. In Korea, they exclusively release the dual SIM variant of their phone while in some market outside their home market they release single SIM variant. It is a well known fact that Samsung always release the dual SIM variant of their product in China.

As we can see, the brands control the market. Xiaomi is a smartphone manufacturer that enter the Africa continent in 2015. Since then they have been launching and releasing dual SIM phones. We have Huawei, OPPO, VIVO, IQOO, and other Chinese brands that are dominating the world stage. These brands most of the time determine what type of specs are available in the market.

They are responsible for what is available in each household too. There is a high possibility that every dual SIM phones you come across are made in China. That is us being realistic. China, to be sincere, control the Asia and the Africa market alongside the Korean company Samsung. The European and the US are mostly dominated by Apple, although, the firm also dominate some part of Asia.

In conclusion, dual SIM phones are common because Chinese brands are common.
